Ever since they started playing together, the members of Donder have been developing their own language to translate imagination into sound. Not only their band name, the Dutch word for thunder, but also most of their musical influences come from nature. Inspired by the cries and whispers of the world they weave sparse layers of cinematic atmospheres, exploring the acoustics of the piano-trio set-up to the fullest extent. Maneuvering around loose composed guidelines, they improvise their way into the unknown, making every concert a different experience.
“Our aim is to switch off the listeners’ conscious mind and draw them into our sonic utopia. The only way we can achieve this is to surrender to the music and get in there ourselves, we have to open the door for the audience.”
In less than two years, the trio has recorded two albums and finished two tours that took them to Portugal, Belgium and Denmark. In May 2016, they released their first album ‘Still’. Less than one year later they finished recording their second album in Koncertkirken, Copenhagen, featuring Danish clarinet- and saxophone player Lars Greve. To be released early 2018.
